Golf Course Architecture Portfolio

The Palmer Course at Kildare Hotel and Country Club, Straffan, Ireland was designed as a potential Ryder Cup venue in 1989. It was eventually chosen to host the 2006 Ryder Cup Matches between the best European Pro Golfers and the best U.S. Pro Golfers. The K-Club also served as the host of European Open from 1994-2006. The Palmer Course was used 1994-2003 and in 2004 the Smurfit Course opened and became the venue for the 2004-2006 European Open. For more detailed information click here.

The Palmer Course at PGA West was designed as a professional tournament venue and has been one of the courses used for the Bob Hope Desert Classic since it opened in 1988. The finishing holes are set directly against a beautiful mountain range and have set the stage for many dramatic finishes to the Bob Hope Desert Classic including David Duval’s final round 59 to win in 1998. Balsam Mountain Preserve, Sylva, North Carolina. “Perhaps the most challenging question about the new Balsam Mountain Preserve golf course..., is how best to describe it. Spectacular comes to mind." Ron Green Jr., Golf Writer, Charlotte Observer. For more detailed information click here.

Naqua Shirakami, Japan. Unlike many of the challenging locations I designed in Japan, the Naqua Shirakami site began as a moderately steeped apple orchard. I designed two eighteen hole golf courses here: The Kogen, 6900 yards, par 72, and The Prince, 7000 yards, par 72. Both courses are world class and provide fantastic vistas, primarily because of the views of the surrounding mountains. For more detailed information click here. Treat yourself and play here!
