The Palmer Course at Kildare Hotel and Country Club, Straffan, Ireland was designed as a potential Ryder Cup venue in 1989. It was eventually chosen to host the 2006 Ryder Cup Matches between the best European Pro Golfers and the best U.S. Pro Golfers. The K-Club also served as the host of European Open from 1994-2006. The Palmer Course was used 1994-2003 and in 2004 the Smurfit Course opened and became the venue for the 2004-2006 European Open.
